Facsimile of the 1842 edition, volume 1 (of 2) only. Folio (50cm by 38cm), [16pp], 13 colour plates. Original card wrappers, dustwrapper. The book is in very good condition; the dustwrapper is good minus (rubbed and spotted, edges chafed). This volume includes the following 13 plates: The doorway of Temple Church, Mansion House Cheapside, The Tower and Mint, The Custom House, London Bridge, London from Greenwich, Blackfriars from Southwark Bridge, Westminster Abbey, Whitehall, St James Palace, Buckingham Palace, Regent Street, The Club-houses of Pall Mall.

Thirteen color plates of drawn colored lithographs printed recto following thirteen pages of historical & descriptive text, each volume. Dust jacket light stains, top edges bumped. Else fine. First published in 1842. This issue, the second from Traylen, is printed in seven-color offset lithography from Ektachrome photographs of the hand-colored lithograph set in the Guildhall Library, supposed to have been colored by Boys himself. Parallel texts by publisher Charles Ollier (1842) and art historian James Laver (1954.) A handsome, presentable set.

Publisher's binding of quarter red morocco, grey cloth boards, gilt titling to the spines, red morocco title label to the front board of volume 2. There is some foxing of the boards and the endpapers; overall, this set is in good to very good condition.
