Illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and seventeen in-text engravings. Collated complete. One of the leaders of the revival of wood-engraving in the 1920s, Irish artist and author Robert Gibbings was director of the Golden Cockerel Press for nine years. The first part of the volume is a descriptive bibliography of the sixty-seven books illustrated by Gibbings; and the second lists his work as artist, writer, printer and publisher in chronological order, and also records some publications containing references to his work. There is a note on the printing methods of the Golden Cockerel Press, contributed by A. C. Cooper who was pressman throughout the period of Gibbings' direction. Written by A. Mary Kirkus, edited by Gibbings's partner Patience Empson, and John Harris. In the original quarter cloth binding. Externally, very smart with minor wear to the extremities. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also very smart with light wear and the odd small mark to the panels. Light sunning to the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Featuring the work of Irish artist and author, who wrote titles on travel and natural history. Slotted into the work are two prints of Peter Reddick's Untitled Landscape, between protective card - both signed by Reddick, and one dated 1980. Th influential wood engraver Peter Reddick is most known for his illustrations in the work of Thomas Hardy and Anthony Trollope. He was a Gregynog arts fellow between 1979 and 1980. Also slotted inside is an additional print, small and unidentified, and a 1958 article on the death of Robeert Gibbings.
