Paperback. Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. First edition. The first edition of this fascinating collection of recipes from doctors in the Mediterranean Basin, in the very scarce original glassine and previously owned by cookery writer Elizabeth David. The first edition. From the library of the influential cookery wr…iter Elizabeth David with her bookplate. Throughout her career, David influenced the revitalisation of home cookery in Britain, where she returned to after the Second World War, after travelling through France, Greece, and Egypt. She was horrified by the food served in post-war England, when rationing was still ongoing, and thus started her career with popularising foreign cuisines in Britain, publishing books on Mediterranean, French, and Italian cooking. Her recipes included ingredients that were scarcely available in Britain at the time, such as olive oil, basil, figs, and garlic, bringing new flavours to British cuisine. Her works include 'A Book of Mediterranean Food', 'French Country Cooking', and 'French Provincial Cooking'.Illustrated with monochrome vignettes by V. Le Campion. This interesting volume features a collection of recipes from gastronomic doctors from the Mediterranean Basin who share a passion for food and cooking, collected by Dr Zizine and revised by Prosper Montagne. In the publisher's original paper cover with the original, vanishingly scarce glassine dust wrapper.Undated, dated by copies held institutionally.
