The author provides a detailed and nuanced account of the conflict, from the initial skirmishes to the eventual British victory. The book is particularly valuable for its insights into Boer military strategy and tactics. The author was an eyewitness to many of the key battles of the war, and he provides a vivid and often harrowing account of the fighting. The book is also an important historical document, as it sheds light on the little-known role of French military observers in the conflict. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. 318 pages (complete). In French throughout. Of MUCH INTEREST is the inscription from Raoul-Duval to General Marquis de Gallifet. Gallifet's nickname was "Executioner of the Commune". His part in the repression and dismemberment of the 1871 was severe, critical, swift. He was also ensured that the Army remained loyal and calm during the Dreyfus Affair. In his earlier years he saw action in Sevastopol and Sedan among other central stages of warfare. Gallifet was at one time made Minister of War - however, at the first cabinet meeting, a member of the Cabinet, seeing him in the room hissed: "Assassin!". The inscription is: "Au Genéral Marquis de Galliffet ancien ministre de la guerre / son tout reconnaissant et obeisant Roger Raoul-Duval 1er Mail 1902". An extraordinary book of a different view of the Anglo-Boer War with many illustrations and photographs. The boards are scruffy. The front face has a 'Mudie's Select Library, New Oxford Street'. The boards have wear, marks, scuffing, stains from storage and handling. They are sure, steady. The contents are benign. Whilst there is evidence of avid use throughout, with wear to the edges, some light user smudges, the contents are certain, clear, clean, confident, generous, energetic, assured. fk.
