About the Author Richard Younker was born in Chicago and attended the University of Chicago, where he received a B.A. in psychology. He has been employed as a mailman, sixth-grade teacher, encyclopedia salesman, shipping clerk, actor, and singer. As a photojournalist for the last thirty-nine years, he has contributed forty photo essays to the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun Times Sunday magazines, Chicago Magazine, and the Chicago Reader. His books include On Site (Thomas Y. Crowell, 1980), Our Chicago (Chicago Review Press, 1987), Yankin' and Liftin' Their Whole Lives (Southern Illinois University Press, 2000), and Chicago People (University of Illinois Press, 2001). Additionally, his photography was showcased in Street Signs Chicago (Chicago Review Press, 1981).
