Magazine / Periodical First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Foreword, Tables, Figures, Folding Maps, Plates (Photographs), Notes, Reports, Index; 157 pages. The original wraps have been reinforced on the spine and there are serious bumps to the corners of the pages. [Please see multiple images of the actual book.] The interior is unmarked and shows only mild age-toning, though three leaves have a small chip at the edge. There is an insert announcing the death of J. H. Edgar, "the continued inspiration" of the society "from its inception until the present," saying that "this present journal may be considered as a self-written memorial. Many of the articles are his creative work: they reveal his inquiring mind which seemed so unfettered by the conventional. . . . His maps, like his reports and recommendations, reveal his mind and heart." His (folding) map "from Damba to Chan Tui" is at the end of the volume. Articles include "Hsiang Ch'eng or Du Halde's 'Land of the Lamas'" ; "Hokow: The Back Door of Chagra" ; "The Story of the Flood in the Literature of the Mo-so (Na-khi) Tribe" ; and "The Hwa Miao Language," among others. As with every book from my father's collection, tipped in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly---domestic sales sent with 'delivery confirmation' tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking. Please note that, due to COVID-19, overseas shipping may incur unusual delays.
