Near Fine hardcover, in dustwrapper with closed tears and one large chip from heel. Thrilling pictorial shows duel in progress, by John Drew. The hero is the gallant cavalier, Gaston de Saulx, exiled from France during the Revolution and deprived of his estates. Other cool characters are the bandit Mazzarda, the spicy heroine Caterina, and Napoleon himself. Sarasin was one of the most exciting swashbuckler writers of her era, better than Sabatini.

Inscription erased a little roughly to front pastedown, which also sports a plate noting that this copy was included in Sotheby's Chatsworth House Attic Sale of October 2010.
