This book was published in1978 in conjunction with an international exhibition of Steinberg's work organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art. Text is written by the noted modern art critic Harold Rosenberg; 274 illustrations, 64 in full color; with a list of plates, a chronology of Steinberg's career, and a bibliography. A four-word inscription and previous owner's signature on the half-title page, and a bit of soiling on the edges, o/w text is clean and unmarked, tight and square. The price-clipped pictorial wrappers of light card stock show a one-inch tear at top of spine with minor surface and edgewear and light soiling but no other significant defects. A 'must-have' for anyone interest in Steinberg and fine American drawing, this is a more than decent reading/study copy.
