Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 8vo. Orig. grey cloth. B&W map endpapers. xiii, 271 pp. B&W photos in text. Some sunning to cloth at spine and edges of boards. Bookseller ticket to rear pastedown. Some age toning to endpapers. Dust jacket is lightly worn to edges, perforations to front joint and spine, some tape repairs with tape discolouring from age, stain to spine foot. This articulate and practical-minded young Louisianan gives us a colourful off duty, which never became part of official records. With undoctored realism he describes the siege around Port Hudson and Vicksburg, the Battle of Shiloh, and the retreat from Atlanta. Equally interesting are his comments on logistics, supply, and the ability of supply officers, relatively unknown quantities in confederate history.
