John Monk Saunders' copies: volume one with his bookplate, volumes two and three with his signature on front endpaper, volume four with his bookplate and signature. Saunders served in the USAS during World War One but was never able to obtain a posting to France. After the war Saunders wrote the short story "The Flight Commander" which became the bases for the movie "Dawn Patrol" winning Saunders an Oscar for Best Story. He went on to become a Hollywood screenwriter with screenwrting credits including "Wings" and "The Last Flight".
