In 4 (cm 26,5 x 35,5), pp. (2) con 59 tavole illustrate da Albert Coinchon di gusto caricaturale incise in litografia in rosso, bianco e nero. Leggeri segni di stazzonatura alla prima e all'ultima carta di sguardia con lieve mancanza al margine inferiore della prima. Legatura editoriale in piena tela rossa. Pubblicazione non datata, ma ascrivibile al 1882 (come da segnalazioni bibliografiche di uscite editoriali francesi di quell'anno). "Ressusciter le genie antique de la caricature sans l'avilir, c'etait un probleme a resoudre et il a ete resolu dans l'admirable album des 'Douze travaux d'Hercule', ouvre trouvee, ou l'artiste, par la suppression du modele' et par la preterition du detail, a su faire apparaitre sur un fond noir, en silhouettes comiques, mais grandioses, les fantomes d'Hercule, de Thesee, d'Hippolyte, de la reine des Amazones, des chevaux heroiques de Diomede, de la Biche aux pieds d'airain, du Lion de Nemee. Par l'audace de son parti pris, le peintre francais est alle rejoindre l'ecole anglaise dont le coloris a presque toujours une cerlaine parente' avec l'enluminure; coloris mordant et acide, qui peut bien ne pas convenir a la peinture d'histoire, mais qui sied a ravir aux albums ou' l'on met en lumiere et en couleur ces contes charmants, dont la premiere pensee a ete concue dans les contrees du soleil" (Charles Blanc, "Grammaire des arts decoratifs: decoration interieure de la maison", 1882, pp. 468-469).
