"The book is part autobiography and part historical narrative, chronicling Abbott's journey from Ohio to Nebraska. It details his experiences during the Civil War, his legal education, and his early law practice in the emerging communities of the Great Plains. Abbott shares stories of courtroom battles, land disputes, and political developments, painting a vivid picture of pioneer life and the challenges of justice in a rapidly expanding nation." Abbott served with the 9th Illinois Cavalry during the Civil War and 76 pp. of this book deal with the Civil War. He crossed the plains in 1867, and started a law practice in Grand Island, Nebraska. He met Susan B. Anthony and became involved with the struggle for women's rights in Nebraska, He provides interesting commentary on plagues of grasshoppers and other interesting experiences. A fine copy of an interesting book.
