Januar 1925, ebenda) war ein bedeutender Metallhüttenkundler und Rektor der RWTH Aachen. 1891 bis 1892 nahm Borchers an der Bergakademie Clausthal ein weiteres Studium der Hüttenkunde auf und arbeitete danach bis 1897 als Lehrer der Chemie und chemischen Technologie an der Maschinenbau- und Hüttenschule in Duisburg. Zum 1. Oktober 1897 wurde Borchers als Dozent für Metallhüttenkunde, Elektrometallurgie und Löthrohrprobierkunst an die RWTH Aachen berufen; nach Verhandlungen mit dem Kultusministerium wurde seine Stelle ein Jahr später in eine etatmäßige Professur umgewandelt.
