Libro di forte impronta satirica anticlericale, raro come tutte le opere di questo forte protagonista del libero pensiero francese, dalla Comune agli anni Venti. - Achille Le Roy (1841-1929) "avait participé à la Comune de Paris et avait été déporté en Nouvelle Calédonie avec Louise Michel. A son retour de déportation il collabora à plusieurs titres de la presse libertaire dont La Question sociale (Paris, 8 numéros du 1er janvier au 10 août 1885) et à Le Cri de révolte (Paris, 10 numéros du 20 août 1898 au 1er mars 1899). Dès le début des années 1900 il fut membre du groupe des poètes et chansonniers révolutionnaires et écrivit et adapta de nombreuses chansons dont Le chant des prolétaires et (1879) Le drapeau rouge (écrit par Paul Brousse en exil en Suisse), Ni dieu ni maitre dont le refrain disait « Debout, frères de misère/ Debout et plus de frontières/ Révoltons nous contre les affameurs/ Pour écraser la bourgeoisie/ Et supprimer la tyrannie/ Il faut avoir du cur/ Il faut avoir du cur/ De l'énergie ». En 1885 il publia un recueil de ces chansons sous le titre « La revanche du prolétariat ». Il était alors responsable de la Librairie socialiste internationale fondée en 1870 et située rue Bobillot dans le 13è arrondisement, et puis au 41 rue Barraul. Achille Le Roy en 1925 fut invité en Union soviétique à l'occasion de l'anniversaire de la révolution d'octobre. Il y resta, pensionné comme ancien communard et y décéda en 1929" (Dictionnaire des militants anarchistes).

Quite uncommon proto-anarchist treatise on Free Love ("Qu'est-ce encore? De la pornographie?") and its relation to socialism. Authored by the Communard proletarian typographer, poet, bookseller, and publisher Achille Le Roy, perhaps most significant for writing the song "Le Chant des Prolétaires" (1879) and publishing several of Louise Michel's works, including "Le Débâcle Universelle" and "L'Ère Nouvelle." The author describes human nature as driven by hunger and love, and that "We love Elvire, Laure or Béatrix; we also love Mathurine, Franchette, or Manon. The socialist Fourier named this reproductive urge 'flitting,' a word that describes human nature as constantly in search of the love spasm" (our translation, p. 4). Only with the freedom to love and "libertarian communism" (p. 21) can members of the working class ameliorate their economic condition. Text concludes with a small selection of proletarian and Communard songs without music, the most famous being Paul Brousse's "Le Drapeau Rouge," first composed while in exile in Switzerland following the fall of the Paris Commune, though Le Roy expanded upon the text to the extent that he gave himself full authorship by the time he was finished.
