From the Stefansson Collection of the Dartmouth College Library with a library stamp and a discard stamp on the front wrap.This issue of the English-language Soviet cultural journal VOKS contains a lengthy listing with commentary of the 1942 Stalin Prizes, which were established in 1941 to mark the sixtieth birthday of Joseph Stalin. Dimitri Shostakovich is listed as winner of one of the two top prizes for music for his Seventh Symphony. Also included are an article on architect A. Tamanyan by K. Albyan; a piece on Ilya Ehrenburg's novel "The Downfall of Paris", by war correspondent Evgeny Petrov, who was killed shortly afterwards; and "A Cinema Actress at the Front" by Zoya Fedorova about her dangerous assignment giving concerts for the troops at the front". Fedorova [1907-1981] was a Russian film star who had an affair with American Navy Captain Jackson Tate. After she refused the advances of police head Beria, the affair was exposed, resulting in eight years' imprisonment in a Siberian work camp She was murdered in her Moscow apartment in 1981,
