Has been price clipped and has a small closed tear at top of front cover. * From the book, "Throughout the 20th century, American corporations were governed by autocratic, almost unaccountable chief executives. Their word was law and the only check on their power was a board of directors composed of their friends and allies. . . Then, in a stunning reversal, a momentous series of firings deposed the heads of some of the world's best-known companies. . . [This book] is the first look at the new world of corporate power and the last word on the transformational events of the last two years [2005-2007].".

Soft cover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Minor edge and corner wear; lightly scuffed and scratched; spine is gently creased; some light shelf wear; overall a nice used copy! Green wrapper with white lettering. 192 historical and informative pages nicely enhanced by black and white photographs and illustrations! "This exciting collection on a new movement in urban archaeology investigates the historical archaeology of urban slums. The "stuff" that is dug up--broken dinner plates, nails and plaster samples--will not quickly find its way into museum collections. But, properly interpreted, it yields evidence of lives and communities that have left little in the way of written records. Twelve case studies define a new field, which will attract the attention of a range of students and scholars outside archaeology, in particular, historical sociologists and historians.".

Wraps. 132 p. Includes illustrations. Most illustrations in color. Fortune is an American business magazine, published globally by Time Inc. and founded by Henry Luce in 1929. The magazine distinguishes itself with long, in-depth feature articles. The magazine is best known for the Fortune 500, a ranking of companies by revenue that it has published annually since 1955. Fortune was founded by Time co-founder Henry Luce in 1929 as "the Ideal Super-Class Magazine", a "distinguished and de luxe" publication "vividly portraying, interpreting and recording the Industrial Civilization". Briton Hadden, Luce's business partner, was not enthusiastic about the idea which Luce originally thought to title Power but Luce went forward with it after Hadden's sudden death on February 27, 1929. In late October 1929, the Wall Street Crash of 1929 occurred, marking the onset of the Great Depression. In a memo to the Time Inc. board in November 1929, Luce wrote: "We will not be over-optimistic. We will recognize that this business slump may last as long as an entire year." The publication made its official debut in February 1930. Its editor was Luce; its managing editor was Parker Lloyd-Smith; its art director was Thomas Maitland Cleland. Very good. No dust jacket. Cover has slight wear and soiling. Mailing information printed on front cover. Presumed first edition/first printing thus.
