Then we got it together and loaded it with a clay pipe of black powder, a wad of the Eastern Daily Press, a pipeful of shot and rammed the whole lot down with more paper .We then put on two caps, tied the gun to a tree and fired it by pulling the triggers with a long piece of string. .The stock, which was full of worm holes stood the test without shedding a sprinkle of sawdust and the gun was deemed safe."
