Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. First Edition. 1st edition 1900 hardcover in red and salmon cloth covered boards with bumped and lightly rubbed tips and spine ends. Boards marked and worn with a drip discoloration horizontally underneath the word 'Scarlet' on the backstrip. But the backstrip has retained its bright gilt and red color. Front endpp removed, 217pp text is crisp and unmarked and followed by an interesting albeit hard to read 32pp Mr. Heinemann's Catalogue. There are some well chosen photographs and a few line illustrations throughout. Taken from the author's Preface: "I have little to say except that a small experience of both hunting and of war having shown me how they dovetail one into the other-and having seen also that the hunting man is already a more than half-made soldier, I have endeavoured to put my thoughts on the subject into words, in the hope that they may be of some use to those who have no experience at all".
