6.25 x 4.25", rebound in 3/4 turquoise leather; cloth, teg, 388pp with Glossary, covers a bit dull and stained, corners worn, hinges loose, first few pp waterstained, pp toned. INSCRIBED IN REAR (on recto of original endpaper) "From the library of my father, Eugene Field." AND SIGNED BY EUGENE FIELD II, who adds the date, Sept 12, 1924. PRESENTATION COPY, BOLDLY INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY HARRY D SICKLES, 1927. Sickles and Eugene Field II sold off Eugene Field's library one piece at a time, and Sickles (or EFII) forged the signatures of various luminaries of the elder Field's time (Remington, Twain, Kipling, Teddy Roosevelt, etc.) on books to add to the value; the even sold several fake Abraham Lincoln signatures! Whether or not this actually came from Field's library is not proven, but the backstory is interesting.
