First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good+. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Algot Stenbery (jacket) (illustrator). 1st Edition. This is a very lovely copy of this title which was written for "older boys." The book is unmarked, crisp and clean. The turquoise cloth-covered boards and gold gilt titles are clear, bright and unrubbed. The top corners are bumped and the pages are tone mellowed appropriate to the age of the book. The dust jacket has a wonderful pictorial in green/black tones of a clipper full of fisherman out to sea. It has some mild shelf/edge wear but is glossy and bright with no chips. A very presentable copy of a very scarce title, especially one in nice condition. Dodd, Mead did not state "1st Edition" in the 50s, but the date on the title page matches the copyright and library of congress info to title verso, and there is a price of $2.75 on jacket.

ABOUT THIS BOOK: To defy a money-loving landlord and a powerful California oil company seemed a large order for the four Grant children. Pete, Crystal, Kent and Johnny, however, were not the kind to give up their family's wonderful rented ranch without a fight--especially since it was the only property on the beautiful mountain edge of Santa-Barbara near enough to their father's bookstore and their own schools for the to afford to keep their beloved horses.(Publisher).
