Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. First Edition. 208 page hardcover discussing the place of private schools in the American Education system. Ex-lib copy, but with minimal markings - no exterior makings and only a library name stamp on title page. Remnants of the dust jacket laid in. Unmarked, tight and clean. The author was Head Master of Lawrenceville School.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+ dj. 1st Edition (D-A). [the slightest bit of scrunching to the upper corners of a few pages, no other significant wear; the jacket has a handful of tiny edge-tears and nicks, very slight paper loss at the base of the spine]. Why indeed? (I wonder if the answers today are very much different from those in 1952?) From the jacket blurb: "Here the head of one of the outstanding secondary schools of the country [The Lawrenceville School] provides a thoughtful and explicit statement of the place of the private school in American education today.".
