N?este poema . seguiu seu auctor a eschola franceza, e empregou um maravilhoso christão allegorico, á moda de Voltaire. Os episodios mais notaveis são: a historia de Portugal desde os tempos mais remotos, sua povoação, commercio com os phenicios e carthaginezes, etc.; introducção do christianismo; conquista dos arabes; guerras e victorias dos reis de Leão; estabelecimento da monarchia em D. Affonso Henriques, e successos mais notaveis até D. Fernando. Tudo isto occupa os cantos terceiro e quarto do poema. ? Os amores de D. Pedro I com a bella Ignez, no canto septimo, imitados manifestamente da Henriada. ? A apparição de D. Affonso Henriques a D. João no canto outavo, em que lhe relata as glorias da casa de Bragança, o que é tambem outra imitação evidente da apparição de S. Luis na Henriada. ? A discussão e resolução das côrtes de Coimbra, de que resulta a acclamação de D. João no canto nono. ?
