Tra il 1991 e il 2023, Pierre Amrouche ha esplorato a fondo il "Paese Moba", raccogliendo documenti e fotografie. Questo libro rappresenta la sintesi della cultura moba. Situato all'estremo nord del Togo e del Ghana, il Paese Moba è caratterizzato da un altopiano solcato da numerose valli, che poi si perde nell'immensa pianura voltaica. I Moba abitano questa savana alberata, punteggiata da colline rocciose e dominata dai baobab. Appartenenti al gruppo principale Gourma, migrarono a ondate dal Burkina Faso. La società moba è essenzialmente rurale; il loro habitat è disperso attorno a un'abitazione principale composta da un recinto delimitato dalla riunione di case circolari costruite in banco e coperte di paglia. La coltivazione di miglio e sorgo assicura il sostentamento dei Moba, così come l'allevamento di piccoli animali. L'arte moba si distingue per la presenza di tre tipi di sculture antropomorfe, tutte designate con il termine Tchitchiri. Rappresentano sia antenati precisi, identificati nella genealogia di una famiglia o di un clan, sia antenati non identificati nel senso più ampio di esseri umani. Ogni tipo di statua ha una funzione particolare e si caratterizza per uno stile scultoreo potente e astratto, sviluppato verticalmente. Oltre alle sculture, i Moba utilizzano anche anelli di bronzo e rame, indossati preferibilmente come pendenti. Questi anelli sono irti di punte che simboleggiano i raggi solari. Che sia considerata religiosa o più ampiamente sociale, l'arte moba è prima di tutto utilitaria; l'artista Moba eccelle nel ruolo che gli è devoluto: esprimere il più possibile mostrando il minimo, ovvero andare all'essenziale.
