Manuscript / Paper Collectible First Edition
Wraps. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. Offered is an essay entitled "The China Syndrome: A Cautionary Tale" (Libertarian Alliance Scientific Notes No. 2) written by Edward Teller and published in 1988 by the Libertarian Alliance out of London, England. A single sheet measuring 8-1/4" by 11-11/16" printed on both sides. This essay was first delivered as a lecture at the University of Dallas, on November 18, 1980 and was subsequently published in Dr. Teller's "Better a Shield Than A Sword" (1987). Dr. Teller begins, "The expression 'China syndrome' had its origins in an inappropriate joke of the late 1940s: What would happen if a reactor melted down and its containment vessel was breached? The answer: The fuel would end up in China. In the United States in the 1960s a reaction against technology became widespread. It bears some resemblance to a development in fifteenth century China. That event was real and can appropriately be called the 'China syndrome'".
