A collection of humorous short stories, some with a nautical aspect. Alfred Walter Barrett [ 1869 - c1933 ] journalist & author who published many books using the pseudonym R Andom. He was taken to court in June 1921 and found guilty of conspiring to corrupt public morals - he had published a lonely hearts magazine intended to allow lonely peiple find friendship. Some found more than that, the judge, in sentencing Barrett said - 'There can be no graver attack on the morals of this country than to establish a paper as you did for the purpose of allowing men and women to commit immorality.' This was Barrett's last published work - the hard labour to which he was sentenced perhaps sealing his fate. 300 grams.

In good plus pale blue cloth boards, blind stamped ruled liens and central and corner decoration to front; navy titles and decoration to spine. The boards are tight and flat, fairly clean; spine ends worn. "The Clevedon Community Bookshop Bindery Team" have inserted new rear end papers and front free end paper. The existing old front paste down has name and date in pencil and a later dedication in ink. The Team also cleaned the spine of old paste and provided new mull and card to spine. The text block is in good condition, tightly bound and flat; the cut edges and Prelims are tanned; some of the pages are slightly tanned around the edges. Without jacket.
