Courses in architectural theory for the most part taught at the National School of Fine Arts by André Gutton during his tenure at the institute from 19491958. Profusely illustrated with b/w photographs, architectural drawings and plans, several of them folding plans, and maps. André Gutton was a French architect, employed as a city planner for the French government starting in 1929, responsible for civil buildings and later palaces. From 19431969 he was the chief architect for the Institute of France. After W.W.II he redesigned part of the city of Aleppo, Syria, and from 19501954 he was the chief architect for the Paris Opera. In addition to the National School of Fine Arts he taught at the Institute for Urban Planning at the University of Paris from 19441952. This monumental project was published with the support of the National Center for Scientific Research. Text in French. DJ of volume one with light creasing at tail of spine and back cover, rubbed at back cover. Inked name of previous owner at top of djs and front free endpapers of vols. I., II., and III A. Volume III B with owner's name inked to front free endpaper and light wear along edges of dustjacket, small chip at bottom of front cover, lightly rubbed. Wraps generally lightly rubbed. Volume VI with minor general wear. Overall in good+ to very good+ condition.
