Contact seller5-star seller1st edition. Edição da autora. Distribuidores Gerais Actuális, Lda. , Lisboa, Portugal, 1948. Rare 1st edition, printed on high-quality paper with two-column text. Illustrated with lithographed engravings in the text and extra text, accompanied by detailed comments. The colored engravings are located on the extra text pages. Vig…nettes by Fernando Carlos. Photoengravings by the author, Júlio Vidal and José Rebelo Cardoso, among others, and reproductions of works by the artists Laura Corado, Manuel Ribeiro de Pavia, Guilherme Filipe, Miguel Angelo Lupi, Abel Manta, Roberto Nobre, Portela Júnior, Alberto de Sousa and Fortunato Anjos. It is a work of cultural and educational vulgarization, of great interest for the study of the situation and work of women in 20th century Portugal, focusing on the collection and critical commentary on the traditions and lifestyles of women in the countryside and in the city, on the mainland and on the islands. It is the result of the author's contacts with women from all walks of life, from Minho to the Algarve and the islands of Madeira and Azores. It offers an impressive and comprehensive portrayal of the situation of women in the country at that time, describing peasant women, sailors, workers, maids and domestic workers, their problems and mentalities. The book also contains reflections on women's political rights, single mothers, female prostitution, sports, institutions and the emotional and moral qualities of Portuguese women. This book is fundamental to the history of national feminism because it expresses a passionate commitment to improving the living conditions and dignity of Portuguese women at a time of widespread socio-political oppression. 1st edition, very good. The spine has been expertly re-backed. Laura Corado, Manuel Ribeiro de Pavia, Guilherme Filipe, Miguel Angelo Lupi, Abel Manta, Roberto Nobre, Portela Júnior, Alberto de Sousa and Fortunato Anjos. (illustrator).
