A beautifully written account based on the travel of the two authors, who started their journey to cover all nine mountains in 1935. Trained artists, they depicted the nine mountains with an aesthetic sense that it can hardly be perceived nowadays.…

First edition, large 8vo, pp. 66; original pictorial wrappers bound in; map, frontispiece, 8 mounted color plates, many other illustrations throughout, some full-page; wrappers with some soiling and short tears, text block with several modest creases, p. 51 with soil mark in the margin; all else very good and sound in a later ochre cloth binding lettered in black on upper cover and spine. A bifoliate prospectus for the book is laid in. "The Yun Kang Caves go back to the dawn of Buddhism in China, when the new religion was introduced by Tartar invaders in the fifth century.
