Hard Back. Condition: Good/Fair. Contents mostly good, clean & tight, but a few minor marks, lacks all ( inc. title page) to Contents page, contains all 194 pages, Contains The Essays; On Fortitude. On the Advantages of Affliction . On the Pleasures of Religion. On Gratitude. On Happiness. On Christian Perfection. On Resignation. Intriguing ink inscription to top of Contents page looks like "Mary Britton given by the Countefs (?) of Bristol (Countess) 1897". Jane Bowdler (1743-1784) was an English poet and essayist, this was compiled posthumously by her sister and published for the benefit of the General Hospital at Bath in 1786 and reprinted many times, but in 1797 a special edition was printed in line with her mother's will, and distributed to friends instead of a mourning ring.
