First Edition. Small 8vo. Polished red wrappers. Very early date for one of these guides; No. 1, published in 1867, is the earliest listed in WorldCat. Very good, fresh condition, right edge of front wrapper and title page with 3/4" tear. Printed by the Oneida Community. Rear with advertisements for several publications by John Humphrey Noyes, including a guide to "Male Continence, or Self Control in Sexual Intercourse." Despite the reputation of the community for "free love," a term in fact coined by Noyes, recent scholarship shows that sexual activity was paradoxically tightly controlled in a hierarchical manner by Noyes.
