"This volume of ZONE explores the ongoing convergence of what were once the distinct worlds of the machine and the organism. Incorporations, through essays, image-text projects, photographic dossiers, and philosophical and scientific articles, examine the increasing breakdown of the boundaries between biology and technology and the social, cultural, and political effects of this merging. Incorporations is about the diverse ways in which human beings are integrated into larger systems and processes of social and technological organization, and the many ways in which the very meaning of the word "life" has been reconfigured. In its heterogeneous approach, ZONE 6 provides a rich cartographic description of the particular capacities and trajectories of contemporary biotechnic arrangements ? drawing on the work of neurologists, anthropologists, filmmakers, architects, philosophers, historians, biologists, dancers, novelists, and artists." -- publisher's statement. Very Good. Light rubbing of cover edges and slight curve to pages, otherwise Fine. Contents clean and unmarked. Due to size and weight additional shipping charges will be required for international orders.

Signed
Reprint of 1956. Inscribed and SIGNED by the author, Leo M. Zimmerman, on the front free endpaper. Scarce, especially signed. Hardcover with dustjacket. Rust cloth-covered boards, gilt spine lettering, 10 1/4 x 7 1/4 inches, 374 pp., index, numerous illustrations (204 figures, including one in color). Book good (damp staining and a little rippling, involving corners and fore-edge of book block, limited to margins and not involving text or illustrations; otherwise, pages clean and binding tight). From the Preface: "The anatomical studies described in this book began some years ago in response to questions raised by the surgeon. During the ensuing years, the reciprocal exchange of experience and information has proved mutually beneficial to both concerned. An accurate concept of the anatomy involved in hernia has been of inestimable value to the surgeon in his choice of operative methods. On the other hand, the problems encountered in the management of hernia and the dynamic and physiological factors concerned, have aided and stimulated the anatomical studies far beyond their original intent. It became quite natural, eventually, to wish to put together the accumulated information gained in a single monograph on the subject of hernia. The anatomical studies go beyond the usual morphological descriptions. They are unique, moreover, in that they include not only the normal anatomical structures as observed in the well-muscled subject, but also the variation from one specimen to another with particular reference to those changes which bear upon the question of liability to herniation." (3214013).
