Unbound. Condition: Near Fine. A small archive of hand drawn pencil illustrations by Gertrude Aoki, a printed plate and a magazine cut out of a poem. There are four illustrations measuring 12" x 8.5". All items are near fine with age-toning on edges of the illustrations, and a crease on the printed plate. Four hand drawn pencil illustrations of nature with depictions of trees, houses, and cities by Gertrude Aoki circa 1950. Two of the illustrations are of tree stumps sprouting new growth, one of which is captions, "Unfortunate Immigrant". Another illustration is of people sitting outside of a city and finally there is one of a small cottage with trees captioned, "Dream Land". The illustrations are well done and unique in the rounded shaping of regular objects with line shading rather than regular shading used to add depth. The printed plate is a Rinascimento print of the Annunciation by Fra Angelico and was given to Aoki by her friend Harriet Root. The magazine clipping features a printed grandfather clock with a poem titled, "A Philosophical Dissertation on Man's Most Implacable Enemy The Irrevocable Passage of Time". Aoki married her husband Minor Aoki, a Japanese industry draftsman and lived with him in Bridgeton, New Jersey and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania until her death in 1997. An interesting collection of ephemera and illustrations by Gertrude Aoki, circa 1950.
