[1.] Louis-Étienne Arcère (1698-1782) war ein französischer Historiker und Priester der Oratorianer. Er gehört zu den frühesten Autoren, die eine Darstellung der Geschichte von La Rochelle gaben. Die vorliegende, sich mit einer kirchlichen Frage beschäftigende Schrift ist im jansenistischen Geist abgefasst, dem die Oratorianer damals anhingen. [2.] Louis Mandrin (1725-1755) war ein Räuberhauptmann und Schmuggler in der französischen Dauphiné zur Zeit des Ancien Régime. Er wurde am 26. Mai 1755 in Valence hingerichtet. Mandrins Leben wurde zum Stoff für zahlreiche Bearbeitungen in Literatur, Oper und Film.
