Features work by Braque, Du…champ, Masson, Van Doesberg, Malevich, Lissitzky, Kandinsky, Duchamp, Gris, Moore, Calder, Man Ray, and many others. 4to (8" x 10.5"). In yellow boards, as issued, with a Max Ernst drawing reproduced on the cover. 157 pages with b/w illustrations. A scarce and consequential document of one of the most significant American gallery exhibitions of the twentieth century, one that featured not only a who's who of surrealist and abstract artists, but also the exhibition design of Frederick Kiesler. Enhanced by an inscription on the FFE from Peggy Guggenheim to the acclaimed avant-garde German/American artist and experimental filmmaker Hans Richter ("To Richter/From Peggy"). Guggenheim gave Richter (1888-1976) his first one-man show in the United States at the Art of This Century Gallery in 1946—both his iconic wartime scroll paintings ands his recent films were exhibited—and collaborated with him on the Art of This Century Films organization two years later. From the collection of art gallerist and artist Barbara Hollander and likely from the extensive art reference library of the Indian Space painter Steven Wheeler, whose estate Hollander represented. Front hinge weakened, overall binding sound. Minor bumping and rubbing to extremities. Light fraying to cloth at corners and spine ends. 1" paint smudge to inner corner of front cover, probably contributed by one of the artist/owners. Because of his left wing…politics, he fled Nazi Germany and emigrated to the United States, where he worked at the Karen Horney Institute. The poems in the book were originally in German and are translated by Robert Valancay into French, with each version facing each other. The forward is written by Michel Seuphor, a well-known abstract artist and art scholar. The dedication is in English, and the book is copyrighted with his Anglicized name, Charles R. Hulbeck.

A well-produced artist's book printed on Arches paper with rough-cut edges with hand-set types, including some unidentifiable found typefaces, accompanied by Harry Reese's experimental prints, drawings, and collages. Druck der Radierungen von Georges… Leblanc, tailledoucier, Paris. - Bei diesen Kompositionen (Reiterkampf IXII) handelt es sich trotz ihrem späten Erscheinen um Jugendarbeiten des Künstlers. Im Jahre 1914 hat Hans Arp für eines der heiligen Andachtsbücher der Brahmanen "Bhagavad-Gita". zwölf Federzeichnungen geschaffen, In dieser Buchpublikation ist der Name des Illustrators mit H.Arpi angegeben. Nach den Angaben von Michel Seuphor in dem Einleitungstext .sind die Zeichnungen zum "Gesang des Erhabenen" im Jahre 1919 auf Kupferplatten übertragen worden.
