Trade Paperback. Condition: Like New. Copyright İ 1997. 346 + xv pp. An excellent, spotlessly clean copy! Clean, fresh, sharp, tight, essentially flawless copy with crisp pages and clean text. Synopsis: George Grant's mystique as a public philosopher is due in part to the seemingly contradictory political stances he took through the years. His opposition to the Vietnam war and his linking of liberalism with technological progress and imperialism brought him favour among the political left during the 1960s. Then, in the following decade, his opposition to abortion earned him allies on the political right, despite his rejection of limitless capitalist growth and free trade with the US. This collection of original essays reveals the complex philosophic, artistic, and religious sources underlying Grant's public positions of nationalism, pacifism, and conservatism. The collection begins with Grant's previously unpublished writing on CTline. This is a bold and vigorous Grant, writing on a topic about which he is passionate and deeply informed. Grant's own work is followed by two pieces that explore his devotion to CTline. Nietzsche, Heidegger, Weil, and Strauss also receive special attention here. Many of the essays draw on manuscripts and notes left unpublished by Grant, thus contributing new perspectives to the ongoing discussion of his work. The focus of this book is the unknown George Grant, namely, the philosophic, religious, and artistic inspiration behind his well-known public positions. Here we discover the great modern thinkers who animated Grant, and whose writings occupied him for much of his life.

Hardcover. Condition: Good. 405 pages with music scores and illustrations (some in color). Folio (12" z 9") bound in quarter red cloth with gilt lettering to spine over blue boards. The words and the music of 102 songs from 11 Operettas. A note about the piano arrangements (excerpts): The piano arrangements contained in this volume are completely new. I derived them exclusively from the original piano scores, published in London during the composer's lifetime. In making these new arrangements, my guiding principle was the strict and faithful observance of Sullivan's style and spirit. My only aim was to make all these songs playable and enjoyable to the great mass of Sullivan's admirers who possess average pianistic technique. I made it my task to integrate the melody with the piano parts. All ensemble parts were condensed into one vocal line (with one exception). In order to bring the songs within range of the average voice, I had to transpose more than a third of them into a practical key. Condition: Spine stained and faded, boards rippled and bowed, corners bumped and rubbed through else a good copy. Internally very good.
