It was written in the early 1930s, and reflects an England between two world wars. Originally published by Jonathan Cape, this is the undated Children's Book Club edition.… The Children's Book Club, located at 121 Charing Cross Road, London, was a prominent book subscription service run by the famous Foyles bookshop. Illustrations and endpapers are by Harold Jones. Previous owner's signature to the fly leaf but otherwise this is an unmarked copy, still tightly bound. Slightly grubby boards commensurate with age, and there is no dust jacket. More photographs available on request.
