First Edition
Cloth. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Green cloth over boards with gilt to spine. Printed for Mrs John Petrie , No. 1 Abbey, and sold by her at the Chapel Royal for behoof of her and her family. Illustrated by a plan and eight elegant engravings. Two inscriptions dated 1944 and 1952 to free endpaper and one undated to pastedown. Wear to cloth and its extremities. Tear to spine outer hinge and head. Inside front hinge starting. Foxing on prelims and title and occasionally inside. Usual browning throughout but clean and tight. Attributed to Charles Mackie (d. 1864) in several catalogues, though contemporary reviews referred to John Petrie as the author of this edition, and all editions were published for the benefit of Mrs Petrie, presumably his widow. A very good copy.
