Contemporary vellum binding with gilt tiles to a brown morocco label, vellum darkened and stained, illustrated title page with bishop and cherub, title page partially detached, considerable nineteeth century shirthand marginalia in the form of diary entries. The reverse of the title page has a private library stamp of 'B' with a crown and an inscription in ink beneath it "To my dear nephew Douglas Wickham, Ash Wednesday 1882". From a slip to the front of the volume "This book of meditations contains what appears to be a form of spiritual diary, with dates and places of entries and readings ( e.g. 'Leamington June 8/43 6am'; 'Holybourne March 1 1858'; 'Admouth June 24 1870'; Fonthill May 22 1839') and a considerable number of page references in the back". Provenance: dedicated to Douglas Wickham, stamped 'B' with a crown. Approximately 4 ¾ inches tall. Condition Report Externally Spine good condition gilt titles to a brown morocco label, darkened to the vellum. Joints good condition rubbed and worn. Corners good condition bumped and worn.
