C.E. & H.M. Brock (illustrator). Northanger Abbey, Jane Austen, J.M. Dent & & Co, 1900, Second Edition Adapted for film, television and radio and published after the author's death, this novel is a coming-of-age story and is often referred to as Jane Austen's "Gothic parody'. In original decorative cloth bindings with illustrations by C.E.Brock and H.M.Brock and edited by R. Brimley Johnson, the book has a preface, adverts and six illustrations protected by tissue paper. One of a set of 10 volumes (Pride and Prejudice (2), Mansfield Park (2), Emma (2), Northanger Abbey and Persuasion. There is a small booksellers (Basil Blackwell) sticker to the inside of the front board. The book is in good condition. The binding is weak to the front and the netting is slightly visible but not detached. The cloth boards have dulled over time and the titling to the spine is less prominent. There is a crease mark to the bottom corner of the front board and slight loss to the bottom edge of the spine The end papers and pages are free from tears. There is foxing to the front and rear end pages. The fore and bottom edges are rough cut. The top edge retains its original gold tint. The original silk ribbon is still fully attached. Becoming increasingly scarce and highly sought after by collectors for its beautiful illustrations and historical significance as one of the first colour-illustrated editions of Austen's works makes this book a wonderful addition to someone's library as a personal purchase or a gift. Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.
