Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. 1st Edition. Bill Miller and Bob Wade were U.S. Army sergeants. During WWII Miller wrote a "hard-boiled" mystery and sent it to his buddy, Wade, who was stateside. Wade added a couple of subplots to flesh it out, and it was published by Farrar, Straus as "Deadly Weapon" under the pseudonym "Wade Miller." Apparently celebrating its "hard-boiled" nature, The Saturday Review called it a "10-minute egg." "Guilty Bystander" was the duo's second of what would eventually be 20-odd titles. But while the Signet paperback reprints remain fairly common, the hardcover originals -- especially in original jackets -- do not. In this case, the original dust jacket is "fair-to-good only," considerably sun-faded to the spine, which jacket spine is missing 2/5ths of its tail. Still priced $2.50 to flap, though. 205 pp. Now reduced from $210.
