Here, Morris, in his guise as Dr. Theodore Bachaus, D.S.E., a persona creat…ed by Arthur Rushmore in 1938, provides a clever and entertaining overview of several contemporary private presses in San Serriffe, including his own Bird & Bull. Fine in cloth-backed decorated boards. Prospectus, original sales receipt, and previous owner's bookplate laid in. (Bird & Bull Bibliography A25). One of 350 copies, each of them number "1".

Slim 8vo. 40pp. Quarter cloth with decorate paper-covered sides, lettered in dark blue at the spine. Illustrated with an intentionally illegible ti…pped-in specimen page, and one tipped-in photograph. A tiny area of blemishing to the lower tips of perhaps a dozen leaves, else in fine state. No dust wrapper, probably as issued. A splendidly produced mock-bibliography of the private-press scene in the fictional Indian Ocean islands of San Serriffe (one of a number of esoteric works about the territory issued by the Bird & Bull Press, and inspired by 'The Guardian' newspaper's celebrated 1977 April Fools' hoax).
