Rare, first edition of a Mãori translation of Friedrich Strass's "Der Strom der Zeiten" (1803) which depicts human history from the year of creation around 4000 BCE to "present day". This part covers the Old Testament and up to Solomon. One more part was issued in 1849 continuing up to the life of Christ. It's based on an English summary made by Bambridge for Bishop Selwyn. Bambridge was a schoolmaster and photographer who served at Waimate Te mission in the 1840s. The Mãori translation is done by Robert Maunsell, a leading scholar of the Mãori language and culture.
