The patented system he introduces employs only one trap per househol…d to facilitate the constant circulation of fresh air through pipes that carry waste away from the home. Furthermore, the system is designed to work in tandem with a cowl mounted on the soil-pipe that draws out vitiated air and prevents it from accumulating. The book argues that this system, when implemented, would eradicate illness and mortality from diseases caused by foul air, such as typhus and enteric fever. In so doing, the book's insights would have profound implications for improving public health.
