A este Sotomayor más desconocido por el público también se añaden algunas de sus obras maestras más conocidas. Los textos de Javier Barón, comisario de la exposición y Jefe de Pintura del Siglo XIX en el Museo del Prado, y Pedro J. Martínez Plaza, coordinador y técnico de pintura del siglo XIX de la misma institución, nos dan una idea equilibrada de la obra de un pintor.
