Edward Barrass (1821-1898) was born in Durham, England. He worked in mines as a child, and was called to ministry of the Primitive Methodist Church in 1841. In 1853 he emigrated to Canada where he worked throughout the country until he was superannuated in 1891 [The United Church of Canada Archives]. Barrass, in the Gallery of Distinguished Men, profiles ministers working alongside him in the Temperance movement both in the United Church and other denominations.
