Einerseits war er als Wehrmachtsangehöriger Vertreter des Sonderauftrags Linz, einer Hitler direkt unterstellten Organisation, die in ganz Europa systematischen Kunstraub für ein geplantes Führermuseum in Linz betrieb. Andererseits nutzte er dieselben Transporte, um zwischen der Raubkunst Werke des Malers aus seinem holländischen Exil zu seinem Münchner Galeristen zu bringen und half damit die finanzielle Existenz Beckmanns zu sichern.
