The illustrious phyicist wore many hats: professor of Radiology, and of Atmospheric [Cosmic] Radiation; pioneer in x-ray technology and dosimetry (he had studied at the Curie lab in Paris); adventurer - as a member of two Italian expeditions that attempted to attain the North Pole by Zepplin; science fiction novelist; and science popularizer. He wears the last hat for this work, a popular study (not his last) of the origins of radiology, radiography, and sub-atomic particles.
