First Edition
Hard Cover. Dust Jacket Condition: Dust Jacket. First Edition. (Printed at the Bangalore Press, Bangalore, Preface and the Main Body of the Volume Pages 1 through 494 and the remaining pages at the Arybhushan Press, Poona 1933). First Edition. One of 2,500 copies. Publisher's green buckram boards (with no letter) in plain brown dustwrapper. A VG+ copy in like dustwrapper which is almost complete with just the slightest of wear to the spine ends and several minor chips to the bottom edge (not affecting any lettering). A rare survival (especially in its dustwrapper). This book contains Volume VII of R.D. Ranade s comprehensive guide to Indian mysticism and covers most of the important mystical saints in the Maharashtra, giving a full discussion of each, together with philosophical comparisons. Contents include: "Bhanudasa", "Janardana Swami", "Date of Ekariatha", "Ekanatha's Life", "Ekanatha's Works", "The Abhangas of Bhanudiisa", "The Abhangas of Janardana Swami", "Ekanatha on his Spiritual Teacher", "Ekanatha's Moral and Spiritual Instruction", etc. It analyses and evaluates the mystical trends observable in the writings of mystics in Medieval India with particular emphasis on the mystics of Maharashtra. We get a fair idea of the spiritual heaven introduced into Indian thought by the writers such as Ramananda, Kabir, Gauranga, Jnanesvara, Namadeva, Ekanatha, Tukarama, Ramadasa and others. The list exhausts all types of mysticism that are known to exist. The book is a study of comparative mysticism and it draws striking parallelism between the mystics of Maharashtra and the Western mystics like Plotinus, Eckhart, Dante and others. Scarce with these attributes. NB: This is the dustwrappered first edition from 1933 and NOT a modern reproduction. Photographs/scans available upon request.
