[Fils naturel de Gaëtan Vestris et de Marie Allard, Marie-Jean-Augustin Vestris, dit AUGUSTE VESTRIS et surnommé Vestr'Allard, est un danseur français né à Paris le 27 mars 1760 et mort à Paris le 5 décembre 1842.SURNOMME « LE DIEU DE LA DANSE », AUGUSTE VESTRIS a marqué les esprits et l'histoire de la danse par son interprétation de la gavotte en 1785. Les deux ouvrages en un volume In-12 reliure plein cuir d¿époque, dos orné de filets et décors dorés, 2 pièces de titre maroquin rouge et vert, plats ornés d¿une bordure de roulette, tranche jaspée. Manques importants au dos au niveau des coiffes. Mors fragiles. Fente au niveau de la roulette vers le mors du 1er plat. Petit manque au coin d¿une des pièces de titre. Quelques feuillets légèrement déboités. Ex-libris sous forme de cachet au nom de « Victor DISDIER » com(missaire) à l¿Ile d¿Oléron. Le livre a appartenu à Victor Grégoire DISDIER (naissance le 30 aout 1770 à GAP) (domicilié à l'ile d'Oléron et Commissaire principal de marine au début du 19ème). Malgré ces défauts, bon état intérieur. Baquoy, Myris, (illustrator).

Leather Bound. Condition: Very Good. 4th Edition. 16mo. 266 pages. Hardcover bound in early quarter leather with patterned paper-covered boards. The binding is rubbed and a little bumped about the edges but is quite sound. Spine ruled in gilt. A solid copy with a sturdy text block. Marbled endpapers. Text is a little toned but i…s generally clean. Illustrated with four full-page copperplate engravings. (Some copies appear to contain only 1 engraving, being just the frontispiece). The leaf for pages 117/118 has a nearly 2 inch tear running down from the top edge in the middle of the leaf. The next leaf for pages 119/120 has a large portion torn away and repaired with replacement paper. This appears to have been done very early, perhaps at the time of printing or even to the original sheet before the pages were printed. Each page has the page number in type. Text is in French. The English translation of the title reads, "The Gastronomy Poem, followed by the Author's Fugitive Poems". The title page bears both the normal date1805 as well as the French Republic date, "An XIII" (Year 13 of the first French Republic). A nice copy.
