Vintage borderless matte-finish reference photograph from the 1915 silent film, showing actress Sarah Bernhardt at Studio des Ternes in Neuilly sur Seine. Annotations in manuscript ink and pencil on the verso. Based on Tristan Bernard's 1913 play. A gambler commits suicide after losing the last of his fortunes at the roulette wheel, leaving his wife and young son to fall into destitution. Bernhardt appeared as the titular character in the stage play, reprising her role for the screen. Set in Paris. 6.5 x 9 inches. About Near Fine, lightly toned along the right edge.
